Yanek Gruener was 10 years old when the German army invaded Poland in 1939 and trapped his family inside the walls of the Jewish ghetto in Krakow. Over the course of World War II, he saw his parents deported by the Nazis and survived 10 different concentration camps. Through Gratz's spare, persistent prose, the story of the boy's early life unfolds with the urgency and directness necessary for survivor stories. While some liberties have been taken, with the permission of Gruener and his wife, Ruth, also a survivor, the experiences and images come directly from the Grueners' collective memories of the war. When Hitler’s army entered and occupied his native Kraków, 10-year-old Yanek knew his life might change, but he had no idea of the horror that lay ahead. His remarkable survival story begins with a dramatic, emotional punch and then chronicles such moments as his secretive bar mitzvah in a warehouse basement, the systematic round up of Jews, and his deportation to the Plaszow concentration camp, the first of 10 camps he would suffer but survive. He recalls encounters with such Nazi figures as the sadistic Amon Goeth and describes acts of wanton, viscious brutality. In an appended note, Gratz explains that the novel is based on actual events in survivor Jack Gruener’s life but he has “taken liberties with some times and events” to provide a better overview. The account includes basic historical information including essential aspects of WWII. A map would have been helpful, but this essentially true story is a good starting point for students unfamiliar with the Holocaust. Pair it with Doreen Rappaport’s Beyond Courage (2012) and Anne Frank’s The Diary of a Young Girl. Grades 5-8. --Linda Perkins

Although some think that sometime between 1610 and 1613 Shakespeare retired from the theater and returned home to Stratford, where he died in 1616, others believe that he may have continued to work in London until close to his death.

Amazing!

This work is amazing! It can't be more beautifully written, and it is so universal and for our current time! Rape and women's abuse and violence is a very present issue in Argentina, where I live, and this work has been recently performed by a Spanish actress in our local theatre. I haven't been able to see this show but this is what made me discover and read the original work by William Shakespare, which I hadn't heard of before.
I strongly reccomend The Rape of Lucrece for those who love poetry, subtlety and a smart treatment of current issues.

Trailblazer of Truth

The world needs more people like Kim Gowdy. She’s a giver, a trailblazer, and—as you’ll soon discover—she’s also a Freedom Fighter and Truth Teller.

You probably understand the giver part. She’s never short on dishing out sincere compliments and strategic prayers offered on your behalf.

The trailblazer part?

She’s willing to jump in and cut a path of adventure and risk. She’s also made it a daily habit to truly live. The alternative doesn’t sound too appealing and yet so many choose slow death, rather than abundant life.

But now for the Freedom Fighter part.

Oh my Jackson!!!!!!!!!loved it

This was an gooda well read...seriously enjoyed....Her Next Breath,took my away.....A short story,quick pace.easy to fallow,well written.well developed even its short,(there is a storyline)and well characters too Ex Seal Jackson&Suri,very intense and enjoyable couple...I liked them right away when they met...They were perfect match,him with his commanding tone and hers sassy,and with that & more they attract each either...A background for her made her be insecure of love/fight that issue due to the position she is into...Jax try to resist but cant when he is around her,...i laugh in a few scene,they are irresistible together.. There is heat/temptation/sex scene,teasing,action,a mission to accomplish/capture a drug lord,be a friend to the son's drug lord not a good choice/danger and that's enough to me to say cause you need to read to see how this story will end....One more thing: A Solid Rock story,loved it...As usual Author Delilah Devlin delivered another one of her awesome work...She can write well well good....She has never disappointed me with her work no matter,what she writes/genre/length/,i just can't get enough....Now,comes the waiting part for the next installment cause need more of theses ex Seal.....The wait is always worth.....Apllause!!!!!!!!!

Sexy page-turner!

Her Next Breath is a short read, packed full of action and great writing. It started off strong from page one and really caught my attention. This second book in the Uncharted SEALs series is a mix of romance and suspense, action and sexy insta-love. While on a mission, former SEAL Jackson Keller and his spec ops team rescue/take into custody school teacher Suri McAnally. I love a good rescue and this one is both sexy and intense. I also love a romance that takes place during a dangerous mission, which heightens the hero and heroine's emotions and speeds the relationship development up. It makes the insta-lust/insta-love a little more believable and kept me turning the pages. I didn't love the heroine as much as I would have wanted to, and didn't think that her actions always matched up with her backstory. But overall I was happy with where the story ended up and I will definitely check out more Delilah Devlin books. Another great SEAL story – no cliffhanger!

Although this book is part of a series it also stands alone and you won’t be lost if you haven’t read any of the other books in this series.

Jackson Keller is on his first mission with the Charter Group’s special ops unit and things have gone wrong. They are supposed to be taking down a bad guy but when they get to his house the only thing he finds is a naked women shackled to a bed.

Suri McAnally was kidnapped by her friend and forced to help provide a cover for him with his father – the bad guy that Jackson is after. Suri is terrified but she doesn’t give an inch, fighting Jackson all the way.

Forced to stay together to keep Suri safe the attraction they feel for each other deepens but when the mission is over Jackson lets her go.

This is a rather short book but packed with lots of action and lots of hot, sexy time between Jackson and Suri. They get their HEA but not without overcoming a few obstacles first.

Her Next Breath is another great SEAL story in the short, sexy style that I love about books from Delilah Devlin!

I purchased this book as part of the SEALs of Summer 2 boxed set.

About the Author
Magnus Lie Hetland is an experienced Python programmer, having used the language since the late 1990s. He is also an associate professor of algorithms at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, having taught algorithms for the better part of a decade. Hetland is the author of Practical Python and Beginning Python, first and second editions, as well as several scientific papers.

If You Know Python and You Need Algorithms - That is Your Book

I am a blogger, writing articles for various programming languages, that I find interesting. Lately for Python. I was provided with a paper version of the book from Apress, after a request from my site.

Before starting the review, let me clarify where I stay in the position of Algorithms - I have been a student at an algorithm course in HackBulgaria with Python and I have read some chapters from Algorithm Design (Kleinberg & Trados) and The Algorithm Design (from Skiena). Furthermore, sometimes I take part in algorithmic competitions, but I am not amongst the top coders.

Having said all of this, let me start with the review:

Structure> The book is structured as probably any book or course for programming. Starting from the basics with the Asymptotic Notation and the complexity of algorithms and going to various structures and cases. After each chapter you have problems with hints for their resolution at the end of the book. Three appendices - way to speed up python, list of all algorithmic problems and graph terminology. I found them useful.

Positive points> As the book of Kleinberg and Trados, here the author really tries to tell a story about the algorithm and he manages it pretty well. Probably by experience he has realized that it is quite easy to "lose" the reader on the tough parts, thus there are some pictures and jokes. Definitely something that I liked.

Negative points (a.k.a. hate)> The only hate part I can think about is that the exercises are not completely resolved, but only hints are given for them. Anyway, for an average programmer having access to google and stackoverflow, it should not be difficult to solve those with the hints. But still, I prefer to know the authors ideas of how to solve those. The more code you see, the better you write your own.

Code Present> Yes. Totally. And that is great! :) Something good about the code - whenever the code allows it, the author provides in a comment an example of what should be written in the shell to run the code. That is a good practise more authors should follow, so the readers are never confused. That is an example of the commented code:

Style of writing> A nice one. As readable as I could imagine. With jokes, trying to attract the attention to the subject. Telling the stories behind some of the famous algorithms is also part of the book - e.g. the thing with the Swedish towns and villages, the bridges of Kaliningrad. Even when there is no such story, the author creates one, which I liked.

The Verdict> If you know Python already to some good working level and you need to understand algorithms for a reason, the book would bring you there. If you do not know Python, learn it first and then go into this book. :)
