About the Author
St. Bridget of Sweden was a mystic and author born in 1303 at Uppland. One of the six patron saints of Europe, she married at the early age of thirteen and bore eight children, one of whom was later canonized as St. Catherine of Sweden. She was a distinctly noble and charitable woman, earning her a wide level of popularity, and also maintained good religious influence over her husband, Ulf Gudmarsson. Bridget later founded the Order of the Holy Savior, and also experienced visions of Mary and the Christ Child. She died on the twenty-third of July, 1373, after having written various prayers and popularizing the well-known Fifteen Prayers of the Lord's wounds. St. Bridget was canonized by Pope Boniface IX in 1391.

Revelations of St. Bridget

The book is absolutely amazing. If anyone is trying to increase their knowledge on this subject, this book is a must. As a novice to this subject, (and without trying to give the enjoyment of reading the book away)I did not know that St. Bridgets writings were actually in three persons (that of Jesus, the Blessed Virgin Mary and herself). The writings are spiritually uplifting and I highly recommend you reading this.

A Guide to Spiritual Improvement

The Revelations of St. Bridget is a very unique and inspiring book. It provides important insights into the Passion of Our Lord and the life of Mary, which insights give excellent material for meditation, and, therefore, are a help to one's spiritual development. Our Lord has told many saints that meditation on His Passion is the best way to improve one's spiritual life. The Revelations is a wonderful guide on the road to spiritual improvement.

This could be a most interesting book, except that is ,merely a short, devotional book of EXCERPTS from the original, NOT the entire "Revelations of ST. Bridget". SO if you're looking for a complete book lookk elsewhere than TAN Publications, at least, at LEAST until they start mentioning books are really excerpts from books, books are abridged etc. As it is, I now have to search for an entire copy again.

Light and refreshing romance

What it's about: Lyssa gets offered a job at a modelling agency. Hoping to earn some extra money for her family, she has to hide her new job, along with her new love interest from the same family she is trying to help.

What I thought: Head over High Heels is the story of the life we wish we all had. Lyssa gets offered a modelling contract in the middle of a clothes store, but has her reservations. She needs to focus on her studies so she can get into Medicine. However her autistic brother needs proper full-time care from someone other than her mother, but her family just can't afford it. So Lyssa is plunged into a strange new world, one where she will have everything at her feet. She lands a killer contract, one that pays more than enough to give her family what they need. Then of course, she meets Dan. Stuck-up and full of himself at first, he realises Lyssa is unlike all the other models he's come across. She has a purpose, and she's real. Lyssa and Dan learn about each other and from each other, ending in life changes for the better.
This book is cute, with a swoony teen romance that's light and easy to read. Super refreshing.

The Good: Dan is the cutest thing out. Got to have good man-candy.

The Bad: I know she wanted to do what was best, but I mean, come on. Most of her changing her mind gave me whiplash.

Head over High Heels takes us into the life of immigrant Lyssa who has moved to Australia with her family to get a better life, Lyssa has dreamed of becoming a doctor but for someone in her position - the finances are not just there. Out shopping with her friend one day, Lyssa is spotted by Yolanda - a modelling agent who sees great promise in Lyssa and big things. Lyssa is at first reluctant but then when she sees the price tag of modelling, she changes her mind as it races to what she can provide for her family. But will her conservative family see i that way or will they feel ashamed and horrified with their daughter to the point that she may end up homeless?
Head over High Heels is not just one girl's plight to finding romance and true love but also one girl's journey on how she overcame her differences - personal and cultural to become the one thing she could do in order to save and help her family.

This book is full of typos, sentence fragments, and run-on sentences. I can hardly believe it is a "teacher's copy"; it would drive any intelligent person crazy.
The material covered is unclear and does not sufficiently explain the material.

Was there no proofreader?

This is an amazingly unprofessional textbook in that there are so many, many, many words that are either left out or are placed next to one another where the writer, or editor, may have meant to come back and choose the correct word but never did. Consequently, the reader is often forced to reread and choose which word makes sense. Punctuation is also a problem. The editorial gaffes make this book a frustrating read and take away the reader's focus from the material covered. The editorial team should either be horsewhipped or, at the very least, called out for their incompetence.

The book itself was fairly good but the index was less than stellar

The book itself was fairly good but the index was less than stellar. As a graduate student working on a second Master's-this one in Substance Abuse- it's fair to say I've used a lot of textbooks. Too many topics covered in the text were not listed in the index, making quick retrieval of information impossible.

Although animation has finally begun to be thought worthy of serious attention, the spate of books on it in recent years has focused primarily on commercial Hollywood animation. Bendazzi ambitiously attempts to fill the gap. He covers more than a century's worth of animation, from the 1888 th{‚}e{ƒ}atre optique (a device for projecting moving painted images that predates motion picture pioneers Edison and Lumi{Š}ere) to today's cutting edge computer-animation technology. He covers American animation, of course, but also describes developments in more than 70 other countries, in many of which animation emerged more as an art form than a box office draw. His work is not without shortcomings: the writing (the translation, anyway) is occasionally awkward, and despite or because of its exhaustive depth and scholarly approach, the text seldom conveys the delightfulness that makes the best cartoons so compelling. Great Documentation of Artistic Animation. Not your average animation history book.

It's clear that the author derives the majority of his references from Europe's history of Animation, which might explain why many people have not heard of the animators he talks about. But considering that these artists did take part in the history behind animation, it is good that Bendazzi made the effort to bring their names to light. He makes some remarks and does look at other countries, such as America's infamous Walt Disney and Japan's rising anime films, but for the most part, he concentrates on the growth within Europe's artistic groups.

This book is less about the big names in cinematic animation and more about the independent artists and studios who worked in animation during a time when the animator's names and the dates their works were created weren't exactly recorded and copyrighted properly. Many of the animators here can also be identified as fine artists, often working experimentally within the media. This is how animation as cinema started (way before the time of Walt Disney and his overshadowing fame) and is continuing to be produced on the other side of Hollywood.

This book definitely has a text-book feel, but as far as a text book goes, it's not too terribly dry. It's informative and gives a very in-depth look at animation, from its beginning as optical illusions to the cinematic phenomena it has become today.

Also, as a final personal comment, this book is like a documentation of the independent films (as well as mainstream films) of the animation industry. Most people will not have seen them (unless they have access to an animation/video library), but that doesn't mean the films aren't important to history.

Better with some revisions.

As a brazilian animator I tried to start to read this book by the Latin american section, and comprehensively, by the one that shows the status of animation in my country, Brazil, a reality that I know very well.I don't know where Mr. Bendazzi got his informations for this part of the book.What I know is that it's full of strange or, at least unknown names of people for most of the brazilian animators, illustrators figuring as animators, besides the absence of five or six of the really most important animators in my country.Because of all that,I'm affraid the rest of the book, at least in those sections telling about the animation in Latin America still needs to be revised.

A excellent resource

I love and I am actually studying animation, and this book is excellent and very interesting, not only for us the animators, but for everyone who likes history. My mother was an professor of History, tells me how interesting is this book every time she takes a look. The book has a enormous resource about the animation, since the first toys that made animation in our eyes while moving it, until actual animation. I admire all those who made animation, because for a short or long animation, of whichever method, we need to be crazy enough to be able to make one! I recommend it to everyone, this book is not only made for studying, it is also entertaining, until the point that I want to carry it everywhere I go and take a little read each time.

A great overview

This book is a great overview for those who are interested in the complexities of the human personality. I would recommend this book to people who would feel as though they can connect with the subject matter and would like to know more details about the topic. This book is also a great resource for writers who are looking to make their characters a bit more complex and would like to do some research before assigning character traits to their personalities. I enjoyed the author's personal touch to his writing, as this makes it more meaningful and less of a textbook-like piece of writing. I would love to hear more personal stories from people who have been "diagnosed" with each personality disorder.

Discredits itself

I bought this to assist in practicing short story writing. I wanted a baseline general idea of different psychological issues. Anything I discovered I could use with a character, I planned to research further. The book starts with a disclaimer that it's based mostly on personal experience. (The author needs new friends.) How to tell if you're dating someone with borderline personality disorder. Really? Useful for my stories, but I don't see how that would really help a typical person seeking answers. The book seriously discredits itself with all the type-os, grammatical errors, and there are complete words missing from sentences! How can I believe something as important as mental health issues when they can't even proof read their work? I just got the book and sat last night skipping through reading here and there. Not one section I read was without simple errors. That makes me question the accuracy of the entire book. A huge disappointment.
