limited usefulness

Full of pictures, but little in the way of explanation or educational value. This book reminds me of presentation slides. The pictures illustrate what the presenter is describing...except that the presenter's words aren't written down. Some things I already knew, so it was easy to figure out what the author was trying to convey. Some tips (very few) were actually useful. And the others I just can't figure out.

pencil, ink and charcoal drawing

Cover is misleading. The last twenty pages of the combined four monographs were OK, that is the volume relating to charcoal drawing, was as I expected, but somewhat basic. The Andrew Loomis books are considerably more instructive in figure drawing. The Borough Johnson book - Figure Drawing & Portraiture, is a much better buy.
